Statement
I’m making work that looks like me. Work that brings feminine and queer influences to woodworking, a craft long deemed square and masculine. Designing outside of ninety degrees, softening corners, and integrating textiles, I’m capturing how I'm experiencing the world. Playful and approachable. Full of care and wonder.
My unconventional furniture forms are capturing this spirit through abstracted portraiture. Cabinets that are short and bright with parts hidden away and concealed behind sliding partitions. Some edges round and approachable–some spikey and energetic. A woven bungee cord storage system that’s organized–yet elastic. All reflections of myself. Colorful stools that rock in full circles–portraits of two formerly rambunctious kids turned fidgeting adults trying their best.
I spend countless hours carving, sanding, and finishing – infusing each piece with deep care. I pay close attention to every surface. Even those often hidden from view. I leave personal inscriptions under drawers. And paint the bottom of stools with hidden colors. Leaving details only the most committed viewers will notice. I invite the viewer to spend time with my pieces. To touch, operate, sit, play, and discover. My work is a reminder to myself and the audience. To slow down, pay attention, and discover the joy in life exactly how it is right now
